<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I woke up today to very, very sad news. My dear friend Betty Anne Orr passed away yesterday. She was ill and she was fighting and I was certain she was going to get better, but she didn't. Still I had to go and share Thanksgiving celebrations with my daughter's class and think and talk about the things we are grateful for. Sad as I am today, I am immensely grateful for having had Betty Anne as a friend. She was that kind of person that made the world a better place just for being there. She had a kind word for everybody, she had time for everybody who needed it, even when she was going through rough times she would find time to ask if my daughter's ear infection was responding to the medications and she was feeling better or if she was feeling OK in her new school. She was the soul of Let's Scrap, and she would never leave a layout in the gallery without a comment, she always knew how to find the best about everything and everybody. I am already missing her terribly, and I know there are lots of people who are missing her with me. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I met Betty Anne through scrapbooking, and I would like to share one of her beautiful layouts with you in my blog today. It was hard to choose because so many of her layouts tell great stories and different things about her, but I think this one shows exactly the kind of loving person she was.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My friend, you will be missed. </span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It has been an amazing couple of weeks at <a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/" target="_blank">The Art Studio @ Scrapbook News and Review</a>. Lots and lots of crafters of every style, level and nationality have taken advantage of the free offer and taken a peak at the magazine. And they have loved what they have seen! </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It is now time for them to get another great offer and get to know us even better: for the next few days, almost <a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/classes" target="_blank">ALL CLASSES</a> are on sale for a fabulous price of 5$. This has also brought lots of visitors to Scrapping Nomad, so, if you are visiting my blog for the first time, I would like to tell you a little bit about me and my classes.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My husband has a job that requires him to move countries with some frequency, and as a family, we all tag along! That explains the NOMAD part of my blog. When you move often, there are lots of things that are unstable and you really need some anchors in your life. Crafting is one of my anchors. Wherever we go, it goes with me and helps me keep my sanity. After all, it is much cheaper than therapy.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At the beginning of the year, I joined the group of instructors at The Art Studio and we have been working hard at creating a site that offers you what you have always been looking for. The classes are full of content, accesible, enjoyable, and ready for you whenever you feel the mojo or manage to find five minutes to sneak some crafting time.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have created a series of classes focusing on some of the most popular trends this year: Chevrons, Twine, Decorative Tape and Doilies. The classes explore different techniques for using these trends in your layouts and customizing the elements you already have in your stash to make them the trendiest around. If you are looking for some layout inspiration, too, there are step-by-step instructions for creating the layouts used as examples. And if you are a visual learner or not so keen on reading, there are videos explaining the main techniques to you!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Here are some of the things I have created for this class:</span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have been telling you to pay attention to some colours this month, as I had big news for you and those colours were part of it. Well, I can share the news with you, now!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/" target="_blank">The Art Studio @ Scrapbook News and Reviews</a> is coming back with a new look, and an even more fabulous site that has been re-designed to include the ideas and feedback from those students who have already enjoyed our classes. And to celebrate, we are having lots of different contests and fun stuff. My favourite is the <a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/extras/blog/entry/logo-colors-challenge" target="_blank">LOGO COLORS CHALLENGE</a>. If you haven't seen the new logo, here it is:</span></div>
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/media/kunena/attachments/85/SiteBadgeTAS.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="192" src="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/media/kunena/attachments/85/SiteBadgeTAS.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Aren't these colours just fabulous? They make me want to craft right here, right now. And so I altered some dollar store frames and made them into a lovely piece for my photo wall. </span></div>
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b585/TheArtStudioSNR/IMG_1977_zps591bde66.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="altered butterflies" border="0" height="640" src="http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b585/TheArtStudioSNR/IMG_1977_zps591bde66.jpg" title="home decor photo frames" width="329" /></a></div><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcaromgar.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F11%2Fcolor-challenge-lets-play.html&media=http%3A%2F%2Fi1293.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb585%2FTheArtStudioSNR%2FIMG_1977_zps591bde66.jpg&description=Altered%20frames%20using%20The%20Art%20Studio's%20new%20logo%20colours.%20" class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal"><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Very simple project. I just dyed the frames, added the photos and stickers, and created some beautiful butterflies from patterned paper, wire and beads.</span></div>
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b585/TheArtStudioSNR/IMG_1987_zpsf201d157.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="http://i1293.photobucket.com/albums/b585/TheArtStudioSNR/IMG_1987_zpsf201d157.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcaromgar.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F11%2Fcolor-challenge-lets-play.html&media=http%3A%2F%2Fi1293.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fb585%2FTheArtStudioSNR%2FIMG_1987_zpsf201d157.jpg&description=Altered%20butterflies%20made%20from%20patterned%20paper%2C%20wire%20and%20beads." class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal"><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am all for very easy projects at the moment, as life has become so busy this year, so a pretty project I can finish in less than an hour and hang from my wall is a big accomplishment!!!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There are some fabulous projects using the colours from some of The Art Studio instructors <a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/extras/blog/entry/logo-colors-challenge" target="_blank">here</a>. So many different styles you are bound to find more than one project you love! </span><span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But the fun doesn't stop there. YOU can take part, too. And here is how you can do it:</span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5qV0U5Wgtck/UIhVKhAi7hI/AAAAAAAAAj8/A4FeUNClyd8/s1600/IMG_2032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-5qV0U5Wgtck/UIhVKhAi7hI/AAAAAAAAAj8/A4FeUNClyd8/s320/IMG_2032.JPG" width="292" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yes, they are not the orange, perfect pumpkins that you get in a pumpkin patch for sure, but they are as good as they get here, and we have grown fond of them. Plus, this year we got them directly from the main market, and paid 6 times less than last year for them. What's not to love about that?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway, going to buy the pumpkins for our annual "pumpkin carving with friends" party made me realize I had not worked on any Halloween stuff yet. How is it possible, when there are so many Halloween things around? I've been very busy, but I could always have found some time. The truth is I've gone into leave-it-to-the-last-minute mode. So, quick trip to the fabric store, five minute dash to the crafts store, and I came home with two wreath bases (two front doors... double the work!) and four yards of tulle and some kind of glittery fabric- not sure what it is, I should probably ask my friend Pam Sandy, she is the fabric expert!</span><br />
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Since I didn't have much time to work on them, as they had to be ready this morning, I just went for a very easy technique: <a href="http://www.skiptomylou.org/2011/11/01/no-sew-tutu-tutorial/" target="_blank">the no sew tutu</a>. The wreath is not a tutu, but it works just perfectly for it. I cut the tulle strips, and alternated three orange strips and three black strips. When I had finished that, I added some strips of glittery fabric, and the wreath was done. It took me about half an hour to finish each wreath, and no tools other than a pair of scissors. Once they were finished, I cut the works BOO and EEK in glittery foam, added a felt background, some googly eyes, and done. Two Halloween wreaths in less than 90 minutes!</span><br />

Close to a million?) and it burst. YUCK! It was rotten inside, so it splattered the sofa and the wall, and it smells... well, it smell like poop, there's no other way to describe it... so, if you are planning to keep pumpkins inside, do a through inspection daily, and please, don't let your kids stand on them!!!!</span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am an awful present wrapper. But whenever we give a group present to somebody, since I am the one making the card, the wrapping usually falls in my hands as well, and I always feel embarrassed to be giving a lousily wrapped present to someone who deserves better. So, I have started looking for better wrapping options in Pinterest, and boy have I found some lovely ones.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Armed with lots of courage, this weekend I tried a wrapping idea using pompons with two presents (yes, DD has TWO birthday parties today, one right after the other, am I lucky or what?). I wanted to use kraft paper to wrap the presents but forgot to buy it, so I used fabric instead. DD loves buying fabric and whenever we go by the shop she will beg for a yard of a different colour. It is much cheaper than a toy, and she has some very creative uses for it, so I always give in and buy her some. Plus, I can steal from her stash when I need some!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My first present is for a little princess who is turning four and is, of course, having a Princess Party. Pink was a MUST for this present, and the crown was a cute touch.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The second one was for a big boy, turning 7, and since this number is so important to him, we wanted to make it part of the wrapping (DD's idea).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">For both presents I simply wrapped them in fabric using my glue gun, added the string lines which I glued under the fabric on one of the sides and then wrapped around the presents, and finally added the pompons, in different colours ans sizes. I cut the crown and seven in glitter foam, and then added a happy birthday sentiment sticker and DD added her name next to it. All in all, a huge improvement from my previous, awfully wrapped presents! DD even asked: "Mom, why are you being so creative today?" Like she can still be surprised about mom getting a sudden burst of unexpected inspiration!</span></div>

I hope!<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Whatever did we do before we had internet????? Silly question, since I can't really remember what I did before I had my iPad!!!! :) Anyway, tropical storm Isaac left us with lots of problems in the area, and it has taken ages for everything to be back to normal, but it is finally working, and I really hope this hurricane season doesn't bring any more surprises.</span><br />
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2k4e5-3MPo4/UHjaUlJ3w6I/AAAAAAAAAiI/1yEGijQWH4E/s1600/Work+in+progress.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="226" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2k4e5-3MPo4/UHjaUlJ3w6I/AAAAAAAAAiI/1yEGijQWH4E/s400/Work+in+progress.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I can't go back and tell you what I have been doing this month, so I'm starting afresh and showing you what I am working on at the moment...</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BDDEW20nu_c/UHg8hliGrtI/AAAAAAAAAhs/bTy29YmSO2E/s1600/IMG_1963.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-BDDEW20nu_c/UHg8hliGrtI/AAAAAAAAAhs/bTy29YmSO2E/s400/IMG_1963.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I bought these frames very, very cheap in a sale and honestly thought it was wood.... what a surprise when I took the back off and realised they were plastic! The good thing is that after some sanding the plastic took the ink really well, with a little help of my heat gun (that was just because I couldn't wait!!!).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Keep that colour in mind, it is part of something new and fab coming really soon, I can't tell you more right now, but I will very soon. Another thing I am doing right now is working on some Halloween projects. I am working on some jars to give away to friends (eating lots of artichokes because I love those jars, what a great excuse!) and some bags to hold treats for DD's class. And I am seriously thinking of taking this class:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M304BORoVPg/UG28ZW4orvI/AAAAAAAAGA0/C8qoEjkPf8w/s1600/CHMATB_ad_MEK.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Online class, art studio, mini album, " border="0" height="240" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M304BORoVPg/UG28ZW4orvI/AAAAAAAAGA0/C8qoEjkPf8w/s400/CHMATB_ad_MEK.jpg" title="Halloween banner album" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The idea of the class is to create a banner to decorate your house during Halloween, and turn it into a Halloween mini-album once the season is over. Two for the price (and especially the work) of one!!! I already took Mo's Punches and Die Cuts class some time ago, and really enjoyed the creative ideas and the sketches, so even though this has been a very busy month (a very busy year!) I think I need to take this one, too. If you are interested, you can find more info <a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/about-yjsg/2012-07-06-22-46-01/convertible-mini-album-banner" target="_blank">HERE</a>. And if you decide to join, please let me know so we can be "scrap buddies". We could chat while we scrap and enjoy the class even more!</span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I have never had such a long period without posts since I started blogging. And the thing is, my Hot Trends class has drained me of my energy! :) Don't get me wrong, it has been a fabulous experience. I have enjoyed every minute of it, from planning, to creating, to sharing what I know with a great group of talented scrappers. But I feel like I do at the end of a LOAD challenge, like I could not create a single page again. EVER. Luckily, I usually get over this very quickly, so as soon as the class is over I know I'll be creating again. </span><span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway, I thought I'd share with you bits and pieces of what I've been doing. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">1. I've been reading a blog, and not just the latest posts: I went back to the first post and read everything from that one to the latest one. I have cried, I have laughed, and I am hooked. The blog is called <a href="http://wronginalltherightways-travcat.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Wrong in All the Right Ways</a>, and i</span><span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">t is the story of a beautiful family and their absolutely amazing kids.</span><span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> We have been talking about adoption for ages, but at the moment, moving so often and sort of unexpectedly between countries, it doesn't seem like an option for us. The process takes a long time, and it would be emotionally draining to go through the whole thing and then have to move and cancel everything at the very last minute. Still, it is a subject that is always in my mind, and I love reading about these kids and their journey, from living in horror to having a family that loves them and nutures them.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">2. I have been making Bento lunches for DD. I have loved bento boxes for a long time, but they always seem to difficult to make and time-consuming. Then I found another blog, <a href="http://www.meetthedubiens.com/" target="_blank">Meet the Dubiens</a>. She can make the coolest fun foods, but she can also pack some great-looking but easy to prepare bentos. They are colourful and appealing but do not take hours to prepare. This is from her latest post, but you really need to check her <a href="http://www.meetthedubiens.com/" target="_blank">blog</a> for inspiration, she's got tons of ideas:</span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7258/7664487540_3b5461cf7b_z.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7258/7664487540_3b5461cf7b_z.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif; font-size: x-small;">Bento box ideas by Jill Dubien, from Meet the Dubiens</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So I went through her list of recommended items, bought some cute stuff, and DD is a very happy child at lunch time. The only point against it is that some of the kids have been asking their moms to make them rice frogs or egg bunnies like DD takes, and I am getting some angry looks from moms at pick-up time!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">3. I've been working on a tooth fairy pillow for DD's first wobbly tooth. I've been following a tutorial from <a href="http://notsoidlehands.blogspot.com/2010/05/cute-tooth-fairy-pillow.html" target="_blank">Not So Idle Hands</a> to create this:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv144/emilie30/toothfairypillow142copy.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://i678.photobucket.com/albums/vv144/emilie30/toothfairypillow142copy.jpg" width="266" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Pillow and tutorial by Emily, from Not So Idle Hands</span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'm hoping my pillow will look half as cute as this one, I didn't read the instructions properly and I bought the wrong materials, so I am struggling a little, I'll show you what it looks like once I'm finished.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">4. I've been working with Chevrons, Twine, Decorative Tape and Doilies! I can't share any of those projects with you, but I will show you some sneak peeks of my class.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQYWV6GKmhw/UEYQ-FQfPsI/AAAAAAAAAhI/A9GayhCuJfU/s1600/Collage.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="302" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-ZQYWV6GKmhw/UEYQ-FQfPsI/AAAAAAAAAhI/A9GayhCuJfU/s400/Collage.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There are so many different projects students will have enough to work for weeks. It has been a fabulous experience, and my albums are about to burst! The class will be available as a self-paced class soon, so if you are interested, check it out <a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/about-yjsg/scrapbooking/hot-trends-2012" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">5. I've had a layout and a card published in this month's issues of CARDS and last month's issue of Scrapbook Trends. Yipeeeee!!!!! The photographers always make a fantastic job and the projects look even more fabulous than in real life. What an honour to be published in them!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now, there are things I have not been doing. I have not even checked any DT call or submitted anything for publication for months. I have not scrapped just for the pleasure of scrapping either. And I have not finished (well, I have barely started) DD's Shutterfly 5th birthday album, which she is really looking forward to. So, I'll leave you now and get to work! I'd love to hear what you've been doing lately, and I'd love it if you could leave a comment telling me about it below. Another thing I have not done is cleaning my scrap-room, and if you leave a comment, I promise to send one of you a surprise RAK when I do (I have some beautiful and trendy materials I don't ever want to see again... Hot Trends overload? LOL!).</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;">Sometimes life means blog posts need to wait, </span><span style="color: #351c75;">but when friends start to worry and send you messages to see if you are OK, then you definitely know it has been too long. My friends, it is so sweet of you to have asked if everything is OK, and I am sorry you worried about us. Everybody in our family is OK, even our poor fish, who were left with an automatic feeder that was turning around (I checked that) but apparently did not feed them at all, as it is as full now as it was three weeks ago. I feel so sorry for the little creatures, they were starving! Anyway, nothing happened to them, and they have been fed a little (didn't want to give them too much after weeks of starvation) and will be fed more tomorrow. Six happy little fish!</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;">We had two fabulous weeks travelling... guess where? </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;"><br /></span></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;">Getting a little bit of Olympic spirit, and taking a little girl to play with the snow:</span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;">Ok, yes, it was dirty and was more ice than snow, but for her, it was a dream come true, and considering we were in the middle of July, I think we did quite well. :)</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;">But then came the best part. We returned only to find out we had no internet or cable TV (or telephone, but we don't use that a lot...), but we did have something much, much better. Our family visiting all the way from Peru. My brother in law, his wife, and their two kids were here for some days, and nobody remembered there was no cable or internet. It was really a blessing not to have them when we had such fabulous company to spend the time with!</span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;">They are funny, kind, warm, interesting, loving, caring, a pleasure to spend time with. And so, my friends, another week went by with lovely company and no internet. Internet came back an hour before they left yesterday (talk about timing!) and I was waiting to finish uploading all my class materials for my upcoming class before I posted here, but it really was taking too long. </span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><span style="color: #351c75;">Having a final look at my HOT TRENDS 2012 classes, I can say I am proud of what I have created. The classes have tons of content, the handouts and videos look great, the layout examples are easy to put into practice but look beautiful. I don't think I will be able to use Chevrons, Twine, Decorative Tape or Doilies for some time now, but I am sure the students who enroll in the class will enjoy it for sure. If you would like to have a look at it, you can check it <a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/about-yjsg/scrapbooking/hot-trends-2012" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</span></span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There's no good party without some yummy food, and this party was no exception. We tried to strike a balance between yummy, healthy, fresh and FUN. In hindsight, I should have added different heights at the table, for a more interesting look, so that is something we'll try to remember for the next birthday party. This is the food we had:</span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now, let me tell you most of these ideas were lifted from blogs that showed either Wild Kratts-themed parties or animal-themed parties in them. They are all pinned in my Pinterest Wild Kratts board, and if you are looking for great ideas, I think you should pay a visit to it <a href="http://pinterest.com/scrappingnomad/wild-kratt-s-party/" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</span><br />
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And, before I leave, I would like to show you an easy project for your Wild Kratts party. Have you noticed the food signs? They are cute and so easy to make. Just download this card <a href="http://i743.photobucket.com/albums/xx79/caroscrap_2009/Wild%20Kratts%20Birthday%20Party/Foodsign.jpg" target="_blank">HERE</a>.</span><br />

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<span style="background-color: white; color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then print them, write the name of each dish, hold it with a binder clip and some hemp, and your food signs are ready! </span></div>

Here is how I made my tortuga HQ:</span><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">1.- I took a big bowl and piled up paper balls stuck to one another with tape to make the shape of the turtle's shell. I'm afraid I forgot to take pictures at this stage, but is is pretty easy. Just add paper balls until you feel the shape is just right. Then, cover the whole thing with cling film, several layers. I still needed to make the head, so I used the body of a small plastic bottle as the neck, and a small balloon as the head. The Tortuga HQ's head is not completely round; it has a flat bottom, so I glued a piece of cardboard to the bottom of the balloon and then again covered everything with cling film.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">2.- To cover the shape, I used bits of newspaper and engrudo. Engrudo is a paste made of 1 part of flour and 5/6 parts of water. You beat it to make sure there are no lumps, and then you cook it for a few minutes until it thickens, making sure to stir it all the time. Add a tablespoon of vinegar, and you are done. Then, you simply need to place the paper pieces on the shape using engrudo, making sure they slightly overlap one another. Once you have a layer, you let it dry completely (can't tell you how long it will take, as it depends on the humidity in the air, it took me a few hours in Libya, but a complete day here in Trinidad). Then, you apply another layer. I divide my newspapers into black and white and coloured paper and use one kind for each layer, so I will know exactly when my layer has covered every single space. For this piñata I applied 5 layers in all. When it dried completely, I removed the bowl and the paper balls inside the body, and added some wire to the top to hang it from. This is what it looked like:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-37yFjzPXZ1g/T_bySZ2Y2DI/AAAAAAAAAdw/UKqm29EP-4U/s1600/pinata+2+a.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="208" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-37yFjzPXZ1g/T_bySZ2Y2DI/AAAAAAAAAdw/UKqm29EP-4U/s400/pinata+2+a.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As you can see, I strengthened the top a little bit, so it could take all the weight of the filling without any problem. I just added a couple more layers of a paper called paper shapers that has glue in in already and you just need to wet it and glue it. You could also do it with masking tape or some extra newspaper layers.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">3.- I added little toys, candy and confetti inside. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ke4ZFDc_vqQ/T_bzDvLgusI/AAAAAAAAAd4/pp8eRPdJolM/s1600/pinata+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ke4ZFDc_vqQ/T_bzDvLgusI/AAAAAAAAAd4/pp8eRPdJolM/s400/pinata+1.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Then, I cut a foamboard circle to cover the whole bottom, pierced holes and put about 35 pieces of ribbon hanging from it (one for each kid in the party) and glued it to the turtle using just one layer of paper shaper strips.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w4qdjrKFaoU/T_b0nv3I7qI/AAAAAAAAAeA/lgQpSZbbBis/s1600/pinata+2+b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="188" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-w4qdjrKFaoU/T_b0nv3I7qI/AAAAAAAAAeA/lgQpSZbbBis/s400/pinata+2+b.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">To decorate it, I used tissue paper. I cut strips, made fringes, and glue them all around the shape, one above the other, covering the whole surface so that no newspaper would show.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cdwiNrfGUOY/T_b1ZEaV1pI/AAAAAAAAAeI/yWnN5x5mcMI/s1600/IMG_0906.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-cdwiNrfGUOY/T_b1ZEaV1pI/AAAAAAAAAeI/yWnN5x5mcMI/s400/IMG_0906.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The top of the Tortuga HQ is a glass widow, so I used light blue paper tissue balls to cover that surface. The final touch? The driver's window in the head, and Jimmy in it. I couldn't find a picture of Jimmy driving the Tortuga, so the one I found had to do.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-a_O8ZVJ5T6s/T_b1-ILd5tI/AAAAAAAAAeU/Qedr4pOCQ_c/s1600/JKP01-17.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img alt="birthday party, tutorial, tortuga HQ" border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-a_O8ZVJ5T6s/T_b1-ILd5tI/AAAAAAAAAeU/Qedr4pOCQ_c/s400/JKP01-17.jpg" title="Wild Kratts pinata, Wild Kratts party, Wild Kratts favor boxes" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<a class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal" href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcaromgar.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F07%2Fwild-kratts-tortuga-hq-pinata.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-a_O8ZVJ5T6s%2FT_b1-ILd5tI%2FAAAAAAAAAeU%2FQedr4pOCQ_c%2Fs400%2FJKP01-17.jpg&description=Wild%20Kratts%20party%20pinata%20and%20favor%20boxes."><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a>
<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">As you can see from the picture, by the time I got to the favour boxes I was totally and absolutely exhausted and could not face another great creative task, so I simply made some popcorn boxes, added the some washi tape to the top, some Wild Kratts to the front, glued tissue paper to the bottom, wrapped the little gifts in it and tied it with ribbon or hemp.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now, the best pinata picture. The breaking moment (thanks to the tallest dads in the party, who held the piñata up high!).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And yes, it takes days to make it and seconds to break it, but those seconds of utter joy are so worth it!</span><br />
<span style="background-color: white; color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It was my turn to post at The Art Studio @ Scrapbook News and Review's blog today, and I created another tutorial. Since my first class, Fabulous Handmade Embellies, is a class abut creating birthday embellies, for this tutorial I created a birthday banner. Now, we've seen so many banners in the past two years, but still, I have never seen one with beads.... oh, yes, I can't stop playing with beads at the moment! Here is my banner:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U85lq22-laE/T_JHD2DvPNI/AAAAAAAAAc8/COyvz8sq1rE/s1600/Tutorial+pic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="scrapbooking, card making, embellishments, crafts, felt, beads" border="0" height="187" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-U85lq22-laE/T_JHD2DvPNI/AAAAAAAAAc8/COyvz8sq1rE/s400/Tutorial+pic.jpg" title="birthday banner tutorial" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And this is the layout I created with it:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M1NWNqzaHNE/T_JHGmCZsPI/AAAAAAAAAdE/StGiayIdoFU/s1600/layout.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-M1NWNqzaHNE/T_JHGmCZsPI/AAAAAAAAAdE/StGiayIdoFU/s400/layout.jpg" width="398" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">It is one of the few pictures I have of DD's first birthday, so it deserved avery special page. If you would like step-by-step instructions on how to do it, you can check them <a href="http://theartstudio.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/index.php/easyblog/entry/three-facts-and-a-tutorial" target="_blank">here</a>. And if you liked this embellie, I'm sure you'll love the ones we will create in my class, Fabulous Handmade Embellies: Birthdays. <span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Oh, the Wild Kratts party is finally over!!!!! It was a huge success, at least that is what I can tell from the kids at school who see me and say "Mia's mom, it was the coolest party ever!" We are totally exhausted but so worth it. No matter how far in advance you plan a party, you are always rushing at the last minute. My legs are still throbbing, let me tell you.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Anyway, party pics are coming soon, together with pinata instructions and some cool stuff like food signs. But today, I'd like to share with you a card I created for Practical Scrappers' birthday cards feature. </span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Isn't it fabulous? I am like a kid in a candy store, opening little packs of embellies and thinking of an idea, then changing to a different pack and starting over again. If you are thinking of getting this beautiful collection for your summer pics, you can click <a href="http://shop.prettylittlestudio.com/welcome/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=328" target="_blank">HERE</a>. Living in the Caribbean, I never have enough summer themed supplies, so this is the right collection for me!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But, unfortunately, I can't spend the whole day scrapping away, as I have my daughter's Wild Kratts' party to prepare. The pinata is almost ready (just missing the wheels of the Tortuga HQ) and I have finished and sent all the invitations. I made this tag:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dUKArPNg-Eo/T8-4xV6pNDI/AAAAAAAAAZo/UVgRlG6SpbM/s1600/Invitation+front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="birthday tag" border="0" height="230" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dUKArPNg-Eo/T8-4xV6pNDI/AAAAAAAAAZo/UVgRlG6SpbM/s400/Invitation+front.jpg" title="Wild Kratts birthday party invitation" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal" href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcaromgar.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F06%2Fpretty-little-studio-plus-wild-kratts.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F-dUKArPNg-Eo%2FT8-4xV6pNDI%2FAAAAAAAAAZo%2FUVgRlG6SpbM%2Fs400%2FInvitation%2Bfront.jpg&description=Wild%20Kratts%20invitation%20tags."><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a><br />
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And I added the birthday info on the back. Then I laminated them, used some twine to tie the tag to a plastic animal (a great way to get rid of some of those animals my daughter has not used in ages). Here is what they look like:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-llalOqhHXQQ/T8-5MUpdILI/AAAAAAAAAZ4/Xfxa0XOsCyM/s1600/invit+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="animals" border="0" height="252" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-llalOqhHXQQ/T8-5MUpdILI/AAAAAAAAAZ4/Xfxa0XOsCyM/s400/invit+2.jpg" title="Wild Kratts birthday party invitations" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x50EHu8QYgA/T8-5QZc0PtI/AAAAAAAAAaA/_8UL9ow2r6I/s1600/invit+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-x50EHu8QYgA/T8-5QZc0PtI/AAAAAAAAAaA/_8UL9ow2r6I/s400/invit+3.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SVIlp6lfzow/T8-5JaaN_kI/AAAAAAAAAZw/9yI6mql72JE/s1600/invit+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="animals" border="0" height="302" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SVIlp6lfzow/T8-5JaaN_kI/AAAAAAAAAZw/9yI6mql72JE/s400/invit+1.jpg" title="Wild Kratts birthday party invitations" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<a class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal" href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcaromgar.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F06%2Fpretty-little-studio-plus-wild-kratts.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-SVIlp6lfzow%2FT8-5JaaN_kI%2FAAAAAAAAAZw%2F9yI6mql72JE%2Fs400%2Finvit%2B1.jpg&description=Wild%20Kratts%20invitations."><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a>
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now, let me tell you. These are not the best designed invitations I have made or the most elegant. But they are surely the most enjoyed! I gave them to their teacher a few minutes before the kids left to put in their backpacks and by the time they got to the bleachers to wait for their parents to collect them, they were all playing with them! And I got several called from parents to tell me how excited their kids were about the party.... now I just need to live up to their expectations.... not easy!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Another thing I have been working on is a banner to put behind the main table as decoration. I wanted to buy one of the lovely PBS ones, but for some reason the fact that my billing and shipping addresses are in different countries didn't let my purchase go through. So, it was time for me to work again. I have already designed the banner and taken it to the printers. I think the PBS problem actually saved me quite a lot of money. Here is the banner:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PtjwI4fghGE/T8-6j7uziyI/AAAAAAAAAaI/anzIzzIq5RU/s1600/Kratts+banner+wm.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="" border="0" height="132" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PtjwI4fghGE/T8-6j7uziyI/AAAAAAAAAaI/anzIzzIq5RU/s400/Kratts+banner+wm.jpg" title="Wild kratts birthday banner" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<a class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal" href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcaromgar.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F06%2Fpretty-little-studio-plus-wild-kratts.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F1.bp.blogspot.com%2F-PtjwI4fghGE%2FT8-6j7uziyI%2FAAAAAAAAAaI%2FanzIzzIq5RU%2Fs400%2FKratts%2Bbanner%2Bwm.jpg&description=Wild%20Kratts%20birthday%20banner."><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a>
</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now, if you are another poor soul trying to put together a Wild Kratts' party without any party supplies to be bought, and would like me to send you a copy of the tag (minus the cute little girl) or the banner (minus the writing), just send me an e-mail. My address is on the sidebar.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I will be posting an update on the tortuga pinata as soon as the wheels are on, and some other pictures from different party things, so keep coming back! And I won't be able to share my Pretty Little Studio projects yet, but it will be soon enough. And they will come with a giveaway, so you don't want to miss it!!!!</span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You may have been wondering why I have not posted as frequently as usual lately. There are two main reasons for that:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">1.- I am trying to give the final touches to my first class at <a href="http://www.scrapbooknewsandreview.com/" target="_blank">The Art Studio</a> at Scrapbook News and Review, which will be launched very soon, and I can't post any of those layouts or videos here.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">2.- I am working REALLY, REALLY, REALLY hard on my daughter's Wild Kratts birthday party. Almost finished the tortuga pinata I showed you some posts ago, but we now have invitations, favour boxes, decorations, and today I bought the most amazing tiger fabric for a tablecloth (yes, the guy looked at me a bit funny when I said it was for that!).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Still, I have managed to do some other scrapping for my guest post at <a href="http://www.practicalscrappers.com/2012/06/fast-and-fabulous-double-pager-with.html" target="_blank">Practical Scrappers</a>. My post was a fast and fabulous layout, which can be put together really quickly with a pack of border stickers or some punched-our border. Here are some close-ups:</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-peY0n1C3XmY/T80r57aM1lI/AAAAAAAAAZI/JXS_0aITON8/s1600/cu+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Scrapbooking, layout, double pager, border stickers" border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-peY0n1C3XmY/T80r57aM1lI/AAAAAAAAAZI/JXS_0aITON8/s320/cu+1.jpg" title="Close up of feathers and fabric feathers" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PrlcIoTw64I/T80r7JoUY6I/AAAAAAAAAZQ/0fLZXo3EGFU/s1600/cu2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="Fast fabulous scrapbooking" border="0" height="240" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-PrlcIoTw64I/T80r7JoUY6I/AAAAAAAAAZQ/0fLZXo3EGFU/s320/cu2.jpg" title="Double page scrapbooking layout using border stickers" width="320" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You have a look at the double pager, plus a more detailed description <a href="http://www.practicalscrappers.com/2012/06/fast-and-fabulous-double-pager-with.html" target="_blank">HERE</a>. I am trying to take pictures of all the Wild Kratts stuff (when I remember) so as to make a post here, as my own search for ideas showed my how little there is around, even though it is a popular cartoon. And I think I will do some scrapping just for the sake of scrapping tomorrow. I am missing that.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Hope your week has had a fabulous beginning, and thank you for paying this blog a visit!</span></div>scrappingnomadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15697096272687832843noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11383486.post-35782262942889065412012-05-28T12:05:00.001-04:002012-05-28T12:29:52.217-04:00Frugal finds: flower embellishment using a mesh bag!<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I love the Frugal Finds feature at Practical Scrappers, it is always play time and creative time, and the results are amazing! For the latest feature we had to use mesh bags and that was an easy one for me, as lots of the produce I can find here comes in mesh bags. For this layout I chose baby pics -probably the fact that my little girl is growing so fast and her front teeth are loose (yet another milestone) influenced the choice of pics for this layout. </span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F35u5HYtyBc/T8OfsI6btAI/AAAAAAAAAYs/A8FEcozVryw/s1600/Oh+baby.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="trash to treasure, flower, embellies, scrapbooking, " border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-F35u5HYtyBc/T8OfsI6btAI/AAAAAAAAAYs/A8FEcozVryw/s400/Oh+baby.jpg" title="Baby layout using mesh bag handmade flower embelishment " width="400" /></a></div><a href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcaromgar.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F05%2Ffrugal-finds-flower-embellishment-using.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F4.bp.blogspot.com%2F-F35u5HYtyBc%2FT8OfsI6btAI%2FAAAAAAAAAYs%2FA8FEcozVryw%2Fs400%2FOh%2Bbaby.jpg&description=Layout%20with%20mesh%20produce%20bag%20flower%20embellie.%20Created%20for%20%40Practical%20Scrappers." class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal"><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I love playing with this piece of JBS cardstock and my light blue inks. But the layout needed a girly touch, so I used my mesh to create a flower. It was a bit tricky and I needed the help of the glue gun, but I love how it turned out, especially with that piece of Teresa Collins bling on top. You really MUST check what the other <a href="http://www.practicalscrappers.com/2012/05/frugal-finds-mesh-bags.html" target="_blank">Practical Scrappers</a> designers have created using mesh bags, I promise you will not look at the produce aisle in the same way again!</span></div>

I will keep you posted on how it goes!</span></div>scrappingnomadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15697096272687832843noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11383486.post-33731057133841795332012-05-21T13:30:00.001-04:002012-05-21T14:24:13.235-04:00Organizing my tapes<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Yes, you've read right. I, the messy scrapper, am organising some of my stash - my washi tapes. I have given up on all kinds of organization tips, groups, or programs. Being tidy is simply not my style, and no matter how enthusiastic I am on the first day, things always start to get messy on the second one. However, I am having a washi tape problem. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I haven't bought too many rolls of tape for the simple reason that, being such a trendy item as they are at the moment, I keep getting them with my kits. And, since I have been using them a lot, I keep them all in a clear container on my desk - the best tip I got for a messy scrapper, just keep things you use often on your desk! The problem with the tapes comes when I submit a project for publication or use it for one of my classes, and need to include a list of materials. As the tapes come with my kits, many of them came without any information of who the manufacturer is, and, the ones that had a box or bag, lost it a long time ago. I made a card today and I had to find the names of the manufacturers of five different pieces of tape: it took me way longer than making the card. I had to go the sites I get my kits from and check each one of their past kits until I found the tape I was using and wrote down the company's name. What a waste of time!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So I decided I needed some kind of system for keeping track of that information. I know if I make a file with that info in my computer I will never update it again, so it won't work for me. And I know that if I make a card with bits and pieces of tape and the manufacturer's name next to them, which was my original idea, I would lose among the stash on my desk and never find it when I need it. One of the only tidy things in my room is my cork board, so I realised that would be a good place for my little "catalog". I got some Blick hanging tickets that I have had since I started scarpbooking (way too many in a pack!) and put a pice of tape on each of them. Behind it, I wrote the name of the manufacturer. Simple. Easy. Something I can maintain.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">They are all hanging from one clip, and the clip is pinned to my board, I will not lose it among the rest of my stash, and I can update it in seconds when I get new tapes. The only tape I could not identify was this:</span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hQ8yDFcerX0/T7Tze7wgIeI/AAAAAAAABXQ/dL_Ex92SxCY/s1600/IMG_0704.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="makeover, decorative tape, tags" border="0" height="400" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hQ8yDFcerX0/T7Tze7wgIeI/AAAAAAAABXQ/dL_Ex92SxCY/s400/IMG_0704.JPG" title="Scrapbooking layout chevrons" width="398" /></a></div>
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span><br />
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you would like to know how the layout looks after the makeover, you can click <a href="http://www.practicalscrappers.com/2012/05/layout-make-over.html">HERE</a> to visit my post at Practical Scrappers. And please, let me know what you think about it! Have a great day and scrap a lot!</span>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11383486.post-66746523400369520692012-05-16T10:47:00.000-04:002012-05-16T10:47:13.064-04:00My first CARDS publication<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I am thrilled today! My first CARDS publication is finally here (well, actually not here here, but on the way). I had the sweet Stephanie at <a href="http://www.cratysteals.com/" target="_blank">Crafty Steals</a> check to see if my card was in it (what if it wasn't????), especially because all the buttons I used were part of a bundle I got from her shop - and because I just couldn't wait!!!! I can tell you the poor guy who delivers my packages from the skybox will have a hard time these days!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In the meantime, I am getting my first Art Studio class ready to go! It is so exciting to be working on every single detail, making sure everything is just right for every student to enjoy the experience. I will be giving away a free seat and some stash you will need for the class soon, and I will have a discount code for any of my readers who wants to join the class, so keep checking!</span></div>scrappingnomadhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15697096272687832843noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11383486.post-29292155317173162662012-05-07T11:19:00.000-04:002012-05-21T08:48:58.229-04:00Negative Space Layouts - Happy campers!!!<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Today at <a href="http://www.practicalscrappers.com/">Practical Scrappers</a> we were asked to create a layout using negative space. It was my chance to use this fab JBS letter stencil I got with my Studio Calico kit some time ago, plus some camping embellies I have had for a long time, which came in one of my Scraproom kits. We never go camping, so I didn't think I would use them, but the cabin embellie looked just like the one in the photo!</span></div>

<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This month I am guest designing at Unique Crafters' Challenge Blog, a new challenge site which runs monthly challenges based on products and gives away great prizes. This month's challenge is to use ribbons or fibers somewhere in your project, and you can enter up to three projects for a chance to win the prize. For my project I altered the cover of a Martha Stewart accordion album. I have several friends moving to other countries in the next few months, and I guess that will give me a chance to use it - just fill with some pictures, and you have a lovely gift ready.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xc8QR22rPus/T6GhHfLFLrI/AAAAAAAABWI/BrBMM6T6Gbo/s1600/Mini+album.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img alt="ribbons, fibers, flowers, scrapbooking, crafts" border="0" height="400" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xc8QR22rPus/T6GhHfLFLrI/AAAAAAAABWI/BrBMM6T6Gbo/s400/Mini+album.jpg" title="Unique Crafters, mini album cover" width="322" /></a></div>
<a class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal" href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcaromgar.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F05%2Fribbons-and-fibers-at-unique-crafters.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F-xc8QR22rPus%2FT6GhHfLFLrI%2FAAAAAAAABWI%2FBrBMM6T6Gbo%2Fs400%2FMini%2Balbum.jpg&description=Accordion%20album%20cover%2C%20created%20for%20Unique%20Crafters'%20Challenge%20Blog"><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a><br />
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I love the way my project turned out IRL, but I'm not so keen on the photos, as the white enamel embossed stems are not easily seen, and the flowers seem to be floating on the page. I guess real life is what counts most, anyway! I really love this ribbon flower:</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9sRJ_6-roAM/T6GhhYI8SUI/AAAAAAAABWQ/52zrVyrlryQ/s1600/flower+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-9sRJ_6-roAM/T6GhhYI8SUI/AAAAAAAABWQ/52zrVyrlryQ/s320/flower+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<a class="pin-it-button" count-layout="horizontal" href="http://pinterest.com/pin/create/button/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fcaromgar.blogspot.com%2F2012%2F05%2Fribbons-and-fibers-at-unique-crafters.html&media=http%3A%2F%2F3.bp.blogspot.com%2F-9sRJ_6-roAM%2FT6GhhYI8SUI%2FAAAAAAAABWQ%2F52zrVyrlryQ%2Fs320%2Fflower%2B1.jpg&description=Accordion%20album%20cover%2C%20created%20for%20Unique%20Crafters'%20Challenge%20Blog"><img border="0" src="//assets.pinterest.com/images/PinExt.png" title="Pin It" /></a><br />
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This ribbon was thick and looked like coloured burlap, and it had wire on one side so it was so easy to work with. This is my favourite part of the project. Can you see the white enamel in the leaf below the flower? That is how good it looks IRL! </span><br />
<span style="color: #351c75; font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">If you feel like playing in this very easy challenge (I mean, how hard can it be to include some ribbon or fibers in a project????), please visit Unique Crafters' Challenge Blog <a href="http://uniquecrafterschallenge.blogspot.com/">HERE</a>. You have until the end of the month to join in the fun!</span></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2
