I can't believe how many batteries we use at home. Including our cameras, plus remote controls, plus toys (just remote control Lighting Mc Queen takes 8 batteries!), we use a large number every week. This is why we've been using rechargeable batteries for a long time. The problem is, we used to have them on the kitchen counter, sometimes for days (when you have three, you need the fourth one to be ready to charge all four at the same time), and one of us always ended up putting them back in the drawer, where they mixed with the fully charged ones. Recipe for disaster. On the day we have a school activity or a party or we see that spontaneous photo we (I) need to take at that very second, the batteries we have put in the camera are not charged, and the camera dies on us. Every time. Then I go to the back up batteries I have in the carrier pocket (am I smart or what?)... only to find out they are not charged either. So, I have decided to put an end to this problem by creating a container for used batteries I can put in my kitchen. And since my kitchen is really white, I decided to add a touch of colour at the same time.

I bought a very cheap plastic container and covered it with laminated fabric (actually some scraps I had left from a tablecloth I made for our garden table). I then copied the fabric's beautiful fruit designs and pieced them in cardstock. Everything's covered in modge pogde to make it last longer. I added rhinestones, a brad, and twine, and I have a used battery container and a little touch of colour in the kitchen!!!!
