New giveaway... coming soon!

August is almost here and our last family holidays around Tripoli are coming soon. After that, we're finally moving! I am missing scrapbooking sooooooooooooooo much. I got this beautiful pack of flowers and vintage ribbons and embellies in the mail today (I ordered it in February, thought it had got lost!) and my hands are itching to scrap. Maybe if I finish the last of the toy boxes and get my suitcases ready tomorrow, I could use one of the kits I left in a suitcase for this kind of embergency and all these new flowers... maybe, does not sound likely, though. Anyway, since I won't be able to post very often during our holiday... or after it, probably, I'll organize a giveaway for you to play with while I relax and sunbathe.... not sure what I will ask you to do this time... maybe guess how many boxes I've packed already? (that would be depressing, at least for me!)... guess when I will finally be able to start scrapping again (ouch! that's even more depressing!). Well, I'll think about it, and post it on August 1st, don't forget to check it out!

Yummy, yummy coffee!

Like I said in one of my previous posts, DH had invited us to lunch in a new hotel they've opened in Tripoli. It's a fantastic place and the lunch was great, but the thing I enjoyed most was coffee. They have a fantastic coffee place, like their advertisement says, an oasis in the middle of Tripoli. And here is my Aleida's challenge photo for the month of July. My daughter was explaning a "map" to me while I was waiting for our yummy coffee. As you can see, it's a lovely place!

Giveaway scout

I've just been contacted by Josh from Giveaway Scout, a giveaway search engine. I've visited the site and there seem to be tons of giveaways, though, needless to say, I simply typed the words scrapbooking and crafts, which are my only obssessions. Not too many scrapbooking giveaways there yet, but it could easily improve if more scrappers add their blogs to the search engine. Once they do that, every post including the word "giveaway" in the title is picked up by their system and published. I'll give it a try!

Blog Award

I want to thank Denise (http://lalasworldblog.blogspot.com/) for choosing me for this blog award.

Thanks, Denise, I was not in a very good mood (nothing serious, really, just all this moving business) and you've changed it completely. Now I'll finish cooking dinner with a smile! (Just got an invitation from my husband to try out a new lovely restaurant tomorrow at noon, so that's a double smile!!!). I have to choose three people to give this award to now, and I'd like to give it to:

Thanks for being such a great source of inspiration!

Scrapbooking break

My unwanted scrapbooking break is getting closer, I have packed my scrapbooking stuff and, though I've left some kits, I have no free surfaces to work on (I might work on the floor if I get withdrawal symptoms, though!!!). I'd like to share with you the alst layout I made for Practical Scrappers as a DT, for the embossing week challenge. I used pre-embossed core-dinations cardstock as the background.

I LOVE this layout, it is very simple and has lots of white space, but it has those nice details at the same time; I bought these butterfly post-its at the museum and did not know how I was going to use them at the time, I love how it turned out! Here are some close-ups:

Brads giveaway - New winner

I haven't received any news from Uaigbe this week, and the moving business is getting harder and harder -not much time left for scrapbooking, and even less in the weeks to come- so I'll send the prize to the second best guess, and that is Betty Anne. Please, Betty Anne, e-mail me your address at scrappingnomad@gmail.com or PM me at Let's Scrap. Congratulations!

Let's Scrap - Sketch 14-7-10

There's a new sketch at Let's Scrap and this week I felt like trying something totally out of my comfort zone. I don't really have a style, layouts take a life of their own while I'm working on them and they turn out to be completely different from one another so I can't define what my style is - I don't think I want to, actually. But sometimes I push things a little bit and try things I've not tried before, and this was one of those times. Here's my layout for this week:

I'm not sure if I even like it or not (depends on my mood when I look at it) but trying new things is part of the learning process, otherwise my albums would all look the same. The hardest part was punching out a wave pattern on the light blue paper behind the photos (which took ages - plus my daughter complained as she couldn't hear what Handy Manny was saying) only to realise once I turned it over that it was very hard to see the waves in it! Anyway, the punched out holes are a striking element, different from just using the patterned paper, even if the waves are extremely hard to notice!!!

Shaker Box Challenge at Let's Scrap

It is my turn to hold the weekly challenge at Let's Scrap this week. I have seen some lovely shaker boxes around lately, so I decided to make it a "shaker-box challenge". You have to include one or more shaker boxes in a project based on one of Let's Scrap's sketches for a chance to win a set of American Crafts Slick Writers.

I made two shaker boxes for the tutorials posted with the challenge, and used them in cards. Here they are:

This is the "easy" shaker box model, made by using part of any packaging you have around your house.

This is the "harder" model, though it's actually quite easy too. This kind of shaker is made from scratch, using acrylic in any shape you want.

Don't forget to visit Let's Scrap and post your own shaker box project for a chance to win this randomly-drawn prize. The deadline is Friday 17th.

Uaigbe? Where are you?

Uaigbe, please send me your address before next Thursday (July 15th), as I don't have any way to contact you. Otherwise, I will send the prize to the second best guess on Friday 16th.

And the winner is...

*This post will remain on top for a couple of days, please scroll down for newer posts.*

Uaigbe, who guessed 1155 brads/eyelets. The exact number is 1172. Betty Anne (1198), Denise (1134) and Keesha (1199) came pretty close, too! Congrats, Uaigbe, and please send me your address to scrappingnomag@gmail.com so I can mail your prize!

Moving

This scrapping nomad is moving again, this time a couple of continents away. On a personal level this is very good news, we've been here for 6 years and it's time to move on. On a scrapbooking level, this has meant I have had to resign as a DT for a second term at Practical Scrappers, which was a very difficult decision to make. I tried to look for ways to meet my deadlines while we moved but there is really no way you can scrap when your materials are in a container somewhere over the sea! I hope I can join the team again once we've settled in our new home. It's been lots of fun and I will miss it a lot!

Blast Off!!!

Practical Scrappers' challenge for this week is using animation/cartoons. An excellent challenge for using up the million things we buy when our children fall in love with a cartoon character. I used my Little Einsteins stickers, and, as I posted earlier this week, I had to take the pictures especially for this challenge, as I'd always wanted to do a Little Einsteins LO, but had never taken them!

Don't miss this challenge, it's so much FUN!

The giveaway is finally here! There are three sets of delicious Sassafras Lass blossoms and two sets of yummy brads waiting for the winner.

And here's what you have to do:

1.- Have a look at one of my brad containers and guess how many brads/eyelets I have in there at the moment (been using a lot lately):

2.- Leave a comment here with the number (the entry that gets nearest to the right number wins).

3.- Post a link to this giveaway in you blog's sidebar (if you have one).

You don't have to become a follower to participate, but it might help you get updates about future giveaways (there will be more to come!). You have time to participate until July 8 in the morning (GMT +2 time), when I will announce the winner!

Practical Scrappers - Decorative Scissors/Border Punches

This week's challenge at Practical Scrappers is to use decorative scissors or border punches. I used both, as I wanted to include a variety of borders in this layout.

I glued a flower sticker onto paper, inked it, curled it, and used a big brad in the center. I decorated it with some rhinestone swirls.

I inked all the border and added bling to some of them.

I loved working with these papers, they are so much fun!
